Punxsutawney Phil is gearing up to tell us all how many more weeks of winter we are going to have this year. I put together a short list of some of my very favorite children's books about Groundhogs day to share with your children so they can learn why we all love that crazy groundhog so much!
Grumpy Groundhog by Maureen Wright - Such a funny book that your kids will just love! The townspeople have to beg and bribe the stubborn groundhog out of his cozy hole with all sorts of silly tricks. The story has a great rhythm when youre reading making it all the more fun.
Another of my personal favorites is The Secret of the First One Up by Iris Arno. Lila didn't want to hibernate while the rest of her family were tucked into bed. Determined to stay awake all winter so she could be the first one out of the den. She didn't know what was going to happen when she poked her head out of the hole but she knew it was something special.
Groundhog Weather School by Joan Holub is so cute. It mixes in facts about the weather and groundhogs making it a great book to add to your personal home library!
Punxsutawney Phyllis is a year-round kind of groundhog! She loves to play in the snow, splash in the puddles after the rain and warm in the sun and this year she is very excited because she can feel spring coming early but she has to wake up her Uncle Phil to make the official announcement and she's not sure how!
There are lots of great books out there to tell the story of Punxsutawney Phil and how groundhog day came to be. What's your favorite?
